what i’m into-that’s keeping me sane {may 2018}

My priority this month was the same last month: putting premium in my personal gas tank.

  • I worked on the front garden, as the English would call it, or more accurately, my shrub beds in the front of my house. They were full of weeds and contractor debris from when we moved in over three years ago.  I know, I know; no judgement please.  Got the weeds and junk out and covered them with a fresh bed of pine straw. Doesn’t look half bad although the Buddy Man insists on transferring straw from the beds to the weeds, er, lawn.  Got some new pillows for the two chairs on the front patio also. I have sat out there a few times in the morning and evening and read or wrote in my journal.  It’s been lovely.
  • We did some more home maintenance things that have been niggling at me. One was replacing a few blown out light bulbs, specifically the ones in the microwave above the stove. Of course those are the bulbs you never have so you have to go to the store and pick them up. It’s amazing the kind of satisfaction that can come from doing something as simple as that.
  • I did a lot of writing. I mean, a lot of writing, but I guess that’s what writers do. Some of it for public consumption but most of it just for me. I have been reading Old Friend from Far Away by Natalie Goldberg. In it, she gives ten-minute writing prompts to help one become a better writer.  I see improvements and maybe they will become evident to you. Eventually?
  • I’m excited to say that I have been able to do something that I have been wanting to do for a very long time: stop mindlessly watching television and read instead. The Modern Mrs. Darcy Summer Reading Guide came out this month and out of the 26 books listed, I am interested in 16.  I am happy to say that I have finished five all ready.  You can check my Instagram feed (@shannanenjoyslife) and I will have a full update during my Quick Lit post next month. I will say that my absolute favorite so far has been The Ensemble, Aja Gabel’s debut novel.  I’m just sorry that she hasn’t a back list.

I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer’s What I’m Into, per usual.  Many thanks to Leigh for hosting this every month.

Tell me what’s been keeping you sane this past month.

enjoy life…
